NABAWAN:
The Nabawan district council is not getting the
revenue they are hoping for due to some
glitches.
It has come to
light that at least 30 bylaws including the main
one which allows the council to collect
assessment have not been gazetted. Nabawan
assemblyman Datuk Bobbey Suan said the oversight
must be rectified by the Local Government and
Housing Ministry.
“The Nabawan
council must have the bylaws so that they can
effectively play the role of local authority,”
he said.
Bobbey who is
also the Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry
Minister said that the council was losing
millions of ringgit as the property owners are
not at the liberty to pay up.
“There is no
revenue from this sector as we do not have the
law to collect revenue from property owners,”
he said at the swearing-in ceremony of the new
Nabawan councillors.
Despite the
setback, he asked the councillors to discharge
their duties well and to plan the development of
Nabawan properly. He also expressed his desire
for the councillors to attend all meetings.
Also present
were Pensiangan MCA
division chief Wong Wai Yuen and heads of
department serving there. The council retained
13 councillors who represented various component
parties of Barisan Nasional, NGOs and the
business community.
